Vietnam's PVEP achieves first gas from Sư Tử Trắng offshore field

On 29 June 2026, the PVEP branch of Petrovietnam’s Cửu Long oil‑gas complex recorded the first gas flow from well ST‑9P in Block 15‑1 of the Sư Tử Trắng (White Tiger) offshore field, marking a key milestone for the phase‑2B development. Initial production measured about 30.72 million standard cubic metres of natural gas per day and roughly 6,096 barrels of condensate per day, surpassing early expectations and coming one day ahead of schedule.

The achievement strengthens Vietnam’s domestic gas supply, contributing to the planned 1.2 billion m³ per year from the project and supporting major power plants such as Phú Mỹ and Nhơn Trạch. The development faced severe technical challenges, including high‑pressure‑high‑temperature (HPHT) conditions, a total loss of drilling fluid, and long lead times for specialized equipment, but PVEP managed to keep the schedule. Subsequent wells – ST‑10P in September 2026 and ST‑4PST in November 2026 – are slated for commissioning, aiming to maintain the accelerated production curve and bolster national energy security.
