Vietnam's Quang Ninh and Thai Nguyen provinces gather DNA samples to identify unknown war dead

In Quang Ninh province, authorities have taken DNA samples from 58 unmarked war graves at the Ha Tu Martyrs' Cemetery. The effort is part of the "500 days night" campaign, which has so far processed 607 of 803 graves province‑wide, collecting 556 samples and reaching 75.6% of its target, with a goal to finish sampling by 27 July 2026.

In Thai Nguyen province, officials collected DNA from 43 unidentifiable remains at the Yen Do Martyrs' Cemetery. The operation followed a solemn ceremony and adhered to a closed‑loop technical procedure, with all data digitised and entered into the national database. Both provinces aim to resolve the identities of missing heroes, fulfilling families' wishes and preserving the nation’s heritage.
