Vietnam's Quang Tri Border Seizure of 633kg Illegal Fireworks and Drugs
On 2–3 August 2026, the Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard in Vietnam intercepted a Lao‑registered truck at the Cha Lo international border crossing. The vehicle, driven by 34‑year‑old Ma Ni Lot Tom and accompanied by 36‑year‑old Su Van Na Kham Di Ba Thay, was found to contain 484 boxes of fireworks weighing a total of 633 kg and 35 synthetic drug tablets intended for personal use. Both Lao nationals were arrested and the contraband was seized. The investigation, led by the Ban Chỉ huy Bộ đội biên phòng, is ongoing.
In a related operation, Quang Tri police stopped a motorbike carrying about 102 kg of Chinese‑made fireworks; the rider, identified as P.K.V. (born 1998), admitted the goods were smuggled into Vietnam. Separate police actions in Tuyên Quang province uncovered a series of motorcycle thefts, but these are unrelated to the border smuggling case.
