Vietnam accelerates high-tech growth through FDI and workforce development

Vietnam is experiencing significant economic activity driven by Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and a strategic shift toward high-tech industries. In Bac Ninh, FDI inflows reached approximately $3.2 billion in the first eight months of 2026, with a 201% increase in the electronics and optical component manufacturing sector. Major corporations such as Samsung, Foxconn, Amkor, and Goertek are key players in the region.

Other provinces are also seeing growth. Quang Ninh attracted an estimated $1.117 billion in FDI during the first eight months of 2026, focusing on high-tech, renewable energy, and semiconductors. Da Nang has attracted nearly $358 million in the first half of 2026, aiming to become a financial and technology hub with a focus on AI and semiconductor microchips.

To support this industrial expansion, there is a nationwide emphasis on human resource development. Provinces like Hung Yen are restructuring vocational training to meet the needs of the semiconductor and electronics sectors. However, challenges remain in higher education, particularly regarding the high cost of laboratory infrastructure required for training specialists in AI and semiconductor manufacturing.

In the financial sector, banking liquidity has improved as capital mobilization growth has begun to outpace credit growth. Meanwhile, the government continues to focus on institutional reforms and infrastructure to sustain this economic momentum.
