Vietnam marks 79th War Invalids and Martyrs Day with nationwide ceremonies

On July 26‑27 2026, Vietnam observed the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day. High‑level delegations—including President To Lam, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man and other Party officials—visited the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, laid wreaths at the Bac Son hero memorial in Hanoi and attended a ceremony at the Con Đảo memorial in Ho Chi Minh City. Similar observances were held in provinces such as Điện Biên, An Giang and Nghệ An, where local authorities and veteran organisations commemorated fallen heroes and veterans.

The commemorations included a live‑broadcast program “Sao sáng dẫn đường” that required temporary road closures in Hanoi, the launch of a new house for a veteran family in Nghệ An, the opening of a reconstructed memorial for hero Trần Văn Thọ, and the enactment of expanded policies honouring people who contributed to the revolution. A village in Huế’s Đồng Di held a joint memorial for 20 “Mẹ Việt Nam Anh hùng” and 78 martyrs, and a nationwide “500‑day‑night” search campaign reported the recovery of thousands of martyrs’ remains. These events reflect the state’s continued emphasis on remembering sacrifice and supporting veterans.
