Vietnam's Southern medical schools see admission score fluctuations 2023‑2025
Admission cut‑off scores at major southern Vietnamese medical universities varied markedly between 2023 and 2025. At the University of Medicine, Pham Ngoc Thach, scores rose from a 2023 range of 18.35‑26.31 to a peak of 26.57 in 2024 before falling to 18‑25.55 in 2025, with medicine remaining the highest‑scoring program.
The University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City (UMC‑HCM) also maintained some of the nation’s highest thresholds, with medicine reaching 27.34‑27.80 points in 2023‑2024 and then stabilising around 27.34 in 2025. The university introduced incentive points for IELTS, TOEFL or SAT results and added new subject combinations for the admission test.
The University of Health Sciences (National University of Ho Chi Minh City) showed a modest increase from 2023 to 2024 (medicine 26.15 → 26.40) and a sharp decline in 2025, with medicine at 25.6 points and nursing dropping by 4.6 points. Across all institutions, 2024 marked the highest admission thresholds, followed by a notable reduction in 2025.
