Vietnam 2026 School Admission Updates

Overview

The 2026 high‑school graduation exam was held on 11‑12 June for roughly 1.2 million candidates, with results posted on 1 July at 08:00 UTC and an appeal period ending on 5 July. Cut‑off scores for 179 public high schools in Ho Chi Minh City were released on 30 June, and more than 151 000 candidates must confirm enrolment online and submit paperwork by the 15‑July deadline. On 4 July the Ministry issued Decision No 1826, earmarking 111 majors in 15 strategic science‑technology groups for government scholarships, while universities across Vietnam published minimum admission scores for the 2026‑2027 academic year. Historical data show that southern medical schools experienced the highest admission thresholds in 2024, followed by a marked decline in 2025. At the University of Medicine, Pham Ngoc Thach, scores rose from a 2023 range of 18.35‑26.31 to a peak of 26.57 in 2024 before falling to 18‑25.55 in 2025. The University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City maintained medicine cut‑offs around 27.34‑27.80 points, adding incentive points for IELTS, TOEFL or SAT results and new subject‑combination options. Similar patterns were observed at the University of Health Sciences. Admissions for 2026 are now seeing a surge in enrolments. The University of Culture in Ho Chi Minh City reported a dramatic rise in cut‑off scores, with some programmes increasing by up to 8.5 points and attracting nearly 13 000 applicants. Colleges nationwide are filling seats ahead of university cut‑off announcements: Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics is close to its 3,200‑student target, Dong An High‑Tech College expects over 1,500 enrolments, Đồng Nai’s College of Mechanical Engineering and Hydraulic met its 2,050‑student quota, and Hanoi’s College of Electromechanics has registered about half of its planned intake.
