Vietnam's switch to E10 fuel and Tesla electric cars spotlight vehicle performance and durability
Following the nationwide rollout of E10 gasoline, many owners of older, poorly maintained vehicles reported hard‑starting, stalling at red lights, low‑speed vibration and fuel‑system clogging. Experts explain that the ethanol in E10 can dissolve accumulated deposits, which then block filters or injectors, especially in pre‑2000 carbureted models. The Ministry of Industry and Trade advises owners of such cars to clean or replace fuel‑system components, a service that typically costs between 100,000‑1,500,000 VND.
A separate large‑scale study of 174 million vehicles found Tesla electric cars to be exceptionally durable, with a 4.6% chance of reaching over 402,000 km—outperforming most gasoline brands. Real‑world examples include a Tesla Model S that logged 520,000 km with only an 11% battery capacity loss and Vietnamese rideshare drivers whose Model 3s exceeded 410,000 km while maintaining 88‑90% battery health. Researchers estimate the average Tesla lifespan at about 20 years, with total mileage up to 75% higher than conventional cars.
