Vietnam's Tân Hóa village earns UN award for weather‑adapted tourism

The hamlet of Tân Hóa in Quảng Trị province has been recognised by UN Tourism as the world’s best tourism village, citing its model of weather‑adapted tourism. After a 2024 administrative merger that created Kim Phú commune, local officials restored the Tân Hóa name to preserve the brand that had earned the UN award in 2023.

Located in a flood‑prone valley, the community has turned seasonal floods into a tourist attraction, offering season‑adjusted cave tours, flood‑safe homestays, agricultural experiences and cultural activities of the Nguồn people, who maintain their own language. The initiative, launched in 2017 and refined through 2023, is promoted as a case of sustainable, community‑led tourism.

The village markets homestays, local cuisine such as cơm Pồi, and adventure routes that include underground rivers, trekking, and waterfall camping, drawing increasing numbers of visitors even during the rainy season.
