Vietnam's trade volume reaches $550 bn in first half of 2026, logistics drive growth

Vietnam’s total import‑export turnover hit nearly $550 billion in the first six months of 2026, a 27.1% increase over the same period a year earlier. Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thị Thắng said the government is targeting at least 10% annual economic growth by 2026, with trade expected to grow about 8% versus 2025 and logistics costs reduced from roughly 17% of GDP to 12‑15%.

The logistics sector’s development plan for 2025‑2035 aims for a 5‑7% share of GDP in value‑added services and an average annual growth of 12‑15%. Hanoi also reported a surge in Vietnam‑China trade through the Hữu Nghị border checkpoint, reflecting vibrant bilateral flows amid broader commodity‑price movements such as a 2% drop in global gold prices driven by rising interest‑rate concerns.
