Vietnam's Vingroup pays $6.4bn compensation to thousands as Ho Chi Minh City launches $10bn of new infrastructure

Vingroup’s Ngũ Phúc industrial‑park project in Hai Phòng province has disbursed about 146 trillion VND (≈ $6.4 billion) in land‑acquisition compensation to households in Nghi Dương commune, turning hundreds of families into millionaires. Earlier in March 2026 the company also paid 105 trillion VND to 84 households in nearby villages. The 238.6‑ha park is being built by Vinhomes Hai Phòng, a Vingroup subsidiary, and is expected to become a flagship industrial zone that attracts large private investment. Vingroup reported first‑quarter 2026 revenue of 65,114 trillion VND and profit after tax of 25,625 trillion VND, far exceeding its quarterly targets.

Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee announced a new wave of infrastructure projects worth about $10 billion to start in the second half of 2026, adding to more than $20 billion already launched earlier this year. The projects cover rail, road, port and other socio‑economic infrastructure and will be largely financed by private capital, with the city expecting to raise roughly 2 million trillion VND from external sources to meet its 2026‑2030 development budget of 3.2 million trillion VND.
