Vietnam's VN-Index nudges higher as Hạ Long Beer declares record dividend
The VN-Index closed at 1,838.9 points on June 5, gaining 7.35 points for the second consecutive session, though the index remains down 24.59 points for the week, marking a third consecutive weekly decline. Trading volume fell to its lowest level since April 2025, with 95 stocks advancing and 203 retreating, highlighting continued investor caution. Large‑cap stocks such as Vingroup (VIC), which rose 3.4%, and VJC, which jumped 7% late in the session, provided the bulk of the uplift.
Meanwhile, Hạ Long Beer and Beverage Joint Stock Company announced a cash dividend of 12,500 VND per share (a 125% payout) for 2025, scheduled for payment on June 26 after the shareholder record date on June 18. The payout is among the highest dividend yields in the Vietnamese market and is expected to attract dividend‑seeking investors.
Analysts note that despite the modest index gain, liquidity remains weak and the market is characterized by a “green shell, red heart” pattern – the index climbs while most stocks decline – suggesting that broader market recovery is still uncertain.
