Vietnam's VNeID app adds feature to connect relatives of martyrs
The Vietnam Electronic Identification (VNeID) application, launched in July 2022 by the Ministry of Public Security, has incorporated a new "Kết nối thân nhân liệt sĩ" (Connect martyrs' relatives) service. Users with a level‑2 electronic ID can log in, select "Dịch vụ khác" then "Kết nối thân nhân liệt sĩ", search a centralized list of martyrs, and submit personal details, phone numbers and documentary proof to request recognition of kinship. The data are forwarded to relevant authorities for verification and to support DNA identification of unidentified remains. The rollout is coordinated among the Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and local administrations, aiming to streamline verification, honor families and aid in the identification of unknown war casualties. VNeID now hosts more than 65 million accounts and already integrates multiple electronic documents such as identity cards, driver’s licences, health insurance, and social security records, reinforcing Vietnam’s digital‑government transformation.
