Viettel Post approved to develop Smart Border Gate at Lao Cai, Vietnam

Viettel Post has been granted approval by Lao Cai provincial authorities to invest in the Smart Border Gate project at the Kim Thanh road‑bridge crossing of the Lao Cai international border gate. The decision, issued at the 2026 Lao Cai Investment Promotion Conference by Chairman Nguyen Tuan Anh, designates Viettel Post as the investor and outlines a 7.87‑hectare development slated for implementation from the second quarter of 2026 through the fourth quarter of 2032.

The project will create a digitally enabled logistics hub that links Vietnam with Southwest China. It includes a control centre, inspection and loading zones, customs facilities, warehouses, a rapid‑delivery centre and supporting infrastructure, all designed for seamless integration with road, rail and highway networks. Built on a platform of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and automation, the gate will provide real‑time vehicle and cargo monitoring, data sharing among state agencies and businesses, and tools to reduce congestion and improve transparency in cross‑border trade.
