Digital expansion of Vietnamese postal and logistics sectors

Overview

Vietnam's postal and logistics entities are expanding their digital and technological capabilities. In July 2026, Viettel Post received approval from Lao Cai provincial authorities to develop a Smart Border Gate at the Kim Thanh road-bridge crossing. This 7.87-hectare project, scheduled for implementation between the second quarter of 2026 and the fourth quarter of 2032, aims to create a digitally enabled logistics hub using artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and automation to facilitate trade between Vietnam and Southwest China.

Concurrently, Vietnam Post is diversifying its digital services. The company is developing the Vmap digital mapping platform, which includes over 23 million addresses, and has entered the mobile telecommunications market as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator. Through its new brand, Pottel, the company is launching travel SIM cards for international tourists, utilizing its network of approximately 13,000 service points across the country.
