Vigo and Pontevedra host major summer cultural festivals in Galicia

The Urbana Monte Porreiro festival in Pontevedra will take place on 4 and 5 August as a free, open‑air event in the Parque do Mirador de Monte Porreiro. The city’s festivals councillor Demetrio Gómez praised the technical effort behind the intensified summer programme, which includes performances by Al Safir, 9Louro, Daniela Garsal and Kid Mount. The four artists together have more than 1.6 million followers on Spotify.

The X International Piano Competition of Vigo runs from 7 to 14 August, organised by the Asociación Música Clásica de Galicia. About 400 pianists from 77 countries are participating. The opening concert features legendary pianist Martha Argerich together with Galician pianist Pablo Galdo, while a narration of Saint‑Saëns’s “The Carnival of the Animals” is provided by Oscar‑winning actor Jeremy Irons. A grand piano will also be placed on a central street in Vigo for public use during the event.
