Vigo approves 9.1 million euro project for Gran Vía mechanical ramps

The Vigo City Council has approved the tender for a project to install seven new mechanical ramps along Gran Vía, specifically in the section between Girona and Tarragona streets. The project has a budget of approximately 9.14 million euros and will be co-financed by European FEDER funds.

The installation will cover roughly 300 meters of the central boulevard, with individual ramps ranging from 33 to 46 meters in length. These structures will include pergolas to protect users and are designed to integrate with the existing landscape, preserving current trees and increasing vegetation. The initiative aims to improve pedestrian mobility, facilitate movement through the city's uneven terrain, and support local commercial activity.

Work is scheduled to begin in early 2027. Additionally, the council is planning a second phase extending from Tarragona street to Illas Baleares, with an estimated cost of 8 million euros. If both phases proceed, the total investment for the mobility project will exceed 17 million euros.
