Spanish urban mechanical ramp infrastructure projects
Overview
Municipalities in Spain have initiated or approved infrastructure projects to install mechanical ramps to improve urban accessibility and pedestrian mobility.
In Barakaldo, the City Council has begun construction on three mechanical ramps in the Arrontegi neighborhood. The project, located on Bizkaia Street, aims to connect Araba Street and Castilla-La Mancha Street by addressing a 10.5% incline. The investment is estimated between 1.6 million and 1.835 million euros, with works expected to be completed by mid-2027.
In Vigo, the City Council approved a tender for seven new mechanical ramps along Gran Vía, specifically between Girona and Tarragona streets. This project has a budget of approximately 9.14 million euros and will be co-financed by European FEDER funds. The installation includes pergolas and is designed to integrate with the existing landscape. A second phase extending to Illas Baleares is also being planned, which could bring the total investment for the mobility project to over 17 million euros.
