Vigo BNG demands freeze on municipal taxes for 2027

The Bloque Nacionalista Galego (BNG) has called on the Vigo municipal government to freeze all local taxes and fees for 2027. The political group intends to formally present this demand to Mayor Abel Caballero to prevent a generalized tax increase similar to those seen in recent years.

BNG spokesperson Xabier P. Igrexas cited rising inflation and the increasing cost of living—noting that basic goods and utilities have seen significant price hikes—as primary reasons for the request. The party is advocating for a “socially just” fiscal policy that includes new exemptions and bonuses based on income levels to reduce the financial burden on low-income households.

Furthermore, the BNG criticized the city council's budget execution, claiming that approximately 150 million euros remained unspent in 2025. The party argues that a tax increase would be unjustified given the council's financial capacity and the significant amount of funds that have not been returned to citizens through improved services or infrastructure.
