Vigo City Council Condemns Israeli Attack on Global Sumud Flotilla

The plenary of the Vigo municipal council voted unanimously to adopt an institutional declaration condemning the Israeli assault on the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian mission bound for Gaza. The text denounced the raid as a serious breach of international maritime law and UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and it expressed support for all crew members, highlighting the participation of Galician nationals.

The declaration also criticised the mistreatment of activists by Israeli authorities, echoing Spain’s broader condemnation of the alleged genocide in Gaza and calling for diplomatic measures by regional, national and European bodies to protect the flotilla’s personnel. The council framed the stance as reflecting widespread Spanish public backing for human‑rights and peace initiatives.
