Vigo jury reviews 19 proposals for Iago Aspas sculpture
A jury has been established in Vigo to evaluate 19 proposals for a sculpture honoring football player Iago Aspas. The project, aimed at recognizing the Celta player’s exceptional career, has a total budget of 295,000 euros. This includes 200,000 euros for the statue itself, 80,000 euros for transport, and prize money for the top three designs: 9,000 euros for first place, 4,000 euros for second, and 2,000 euros for third.
The winning design will be a life-sized bronze sculpture, measuring 1.76 meters in height, depicting Aspas in his Celta kit. Once a winner is selected and the contract is formalized, the sculptor will have a maximum of three months to complete the work. The city plans to install the monument in the spring, specifically between March and April, at the corner between the Marcador and Tribuna stands.
The jury includes Vigo’s Councilor for Culture, Gorka Gómez, representatives from Celta such as Carlos Cao, Jonathan Aspas, and various municipal department heads from the areas of contracting, general services, historical heritage, and museums.
