Vigo launches massive Christmas lighting project for 2024 season

The city of Vigo in Galicia, Spain, has begun installing its 2024 Christmas decorations. Officials announced that lights will be placed on 500 streets, using more than 12 million LED bulbs, decorating thousands of trees and setting up 1,500 illuminated arches. The preparations started early to ensure the displays are ready for a November switch‑on.

Mayor Abel Caballero said the 300,000‑resident coastal city aims to become a global holiday destination. In addition to expanding the lighting, Vigo will erect Spain’s tallest public Christmas tree. The expanded festivities are expected to surpass last year’s roughly five million visitors, boosting tourism and local commerce.
