Vigo 2024 Christmas lighting and tourism preparations
Overview
In late July and early August 2026, the city of Vigo, Spain, began installing its 2024 Christmas lighting scheme. The plan covers 500 streets—an increase of 40 streets over the previous year—and uses more than 12 million LED bulbs to decorate 7,000 ornamental motifs, 2,700 trees, and 1,500 illuminated arches. Mayor Abel Caballero promoted the display as a way to turn Vigo into a global holiday destination and to attract more visitors than the roughly five million who came the previous year. The city also plans to erect Spain’s tallest public Christmas tree, with an official lighting ceremony scheduled for November.
To further bolster tourism, the Vigo City Council has introduced a contract for an illuminated 3D photocall. Measuring six meters long and 2.8 meters high, the aluminum structure will feature the phrase ‘Vigo, onde vive o Nadal’ and will include lighting to allow for nighttime photography. This project includes additional promotional signage for emblematic locations such as the Porta del Sol Christmas trees and various city plazas.
Simultaneously, the Vialia Estación shopping centre, managed by Nhood, hosted a series of free family-focused summer events throughout August. These activities included weekly children’s workshops, water games, mini-Olympics, themed parties, and concerts by artists such as Perro Futuro and La Franga, providing community engagement while the holiday preparations progressed.
