Vigo Mayor announces infrastructure, tourism, and flight expansion plans

Vigo Mayor Abel Caballero has announced several strategic initiatives for the city, ranging from tourism and infrastructure to international connectivity.

Regarding local festivities, the city council is set to approve a contract for an expanded Christmas Nativity scene (Belén de Vigo). The installation, managed by 'La Morena de Zamora', will cover 25 square meters and include local architectural and ornamental elements to integrate Vigo's identity into the display.

On the infrastructure front, Caballero defended an investment plan to position Vigo as a host for the 2030 World Cup. The proposed plan involves 107.5 million euros, primarily for a 41,000-seat stadium to support RC Celta. The Mayor suggested a tripartite funding model between local, provincial, and regional governments, arguing the long-term economic returns and infrastructure benefits would far outweigh the costs.

Additionally, the city is working to restore international flights from Vigo Airport. Plans are underway to establish connections to London, Paris, Alicante, and Seville. While specific airlines have not been finalized, Wizz Air is noted as a potential candidate due to its interest in connecting Vigo with its Luton base.
