Vigo inaugurates new glass elevator as regional festivals begin

Various local festivities and infrastructure developments are taking place across several Spanish municipalities. In Vigo, the 'Vigo Vertical' project reaches a milestone with the opening of the Juan Ramón Jiménez glass elevator. This infrastructure, costing over 1.1 million euros and co-funded by the City Council and the Provincial Council, connects the Auditorio Mar de Vigo with Torrecedeira, overcoming an 11-meter elevation change and offering views of the Ría.

Cultural and religious celebrations are also prominent. San Andrés de Montejos is hosting the Grandes Fiestas del Cristo 2026, featuring sports, motor exhibitions, and traditional music. In Bouzas, the 'Guateque Abur Verán' returns to celebrate retro aesthetics from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Vigo's Castrelos district will host the 28th 'Festa do Mexillón' on September 6, focusing on Galician gastronomy.

Other regional events include the patron saint festivities in Algar, Cádiz, which maintain a historical connection to Mexico, and the traditional pilgrimage in Pozuelo de Calatrava in honor of the Virgen de los Santos. Additionally, Santoña is celebrating its patronal feasts for the Virgen del Puerto, highlighting the local anchovy industry and maritime traditions.
