Vigo Port and University strengthen Blue Economy alliance
The Port Authority of Vigo (APV) and the University of Vigo (UVigo) have reinforced their strategic alliance to promote the Blue Economy, technological innovation, and sustainability. During a recent meeting between APV President Carlos Botana and UVigo Rector Carmen García Mateo, the leaders established a roadmap to strengthen cooperation in research, talent training, and socioeconomic development.
A key component of this collaboration is a new study led by Professor Carlos Rodríguez to analyze the socioeconomic impact of the Port of Vigo and its surrounding area. The research will focus on employment, added value, and commercial dynamics within the food sector, specifically targeting the fresh and frozen fish, fruit, and canning industries.
Additionally, academic representatives will join port working groups, such as the Blue Growth group and the Port Navigation Council, to facilitate the transfer of knowledge between academia and port management. This follows previous successful joint initiatives including PuertAlMar, MarENet, and BlueFishing Training.
