Galician port development and sustainability initiatives

Overview

Port authorities in Galicia are advancing strategic initiatives focused on the Blue Economy, infrastructure, and sustainability. The Port Authority of Vigo (APV) and the University of Vigo (UVigo) have strengthened their alliance to promote technological innovation and socioeconomic development. This cooperation includes a new study led by Professor Carlos Rodríguez to analyze the socioeconomic impact of the port on sectors such as the fresh and frozen fish, fruit, and canning industries.

In tandem with academic collaboration, physical infrastructure and green energy projects are underway. In A Guarda, Portos de Galicia is renovating vessel docking areas and access control systems, alongside completing a net warehouse refurbishment. The Port Authority of Vigo has also expanded its renewable energy capacity by installing 322 solar panels at the El Tinglado de Comercio building, a project intended to produce 289,468 kWh annually and reduce CO2 emissions.
