Vigo water reservoirs hit lowest levels in a year

The main reservoirs that supply water to Vigo and its metropolitan area are showing significantly lower water levels compared with the same period last year. The Eiras dam, the most important for the city, is at 92.75% capacity, down from almost 99% a year earlier. Zamáns reservoir stands at about 89%, and Baíña, which serves the municipality of Baiona, is at 66.6%, more than 20 percentage points below its level at this time in 2025.

The decline follows a sharp drop in rainfall after a wet start to the year, with precipitation in March onward falling well below previous years. Officials warn that if the current trend continues, measures may be needed to protect water supply for residents, visitors and businesses in the region.
