Vijayawada: Tension erupts over sports quota teacher recruitment dispute

Tensions escalated in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, as the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and newly appointed teachers clashed outside the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) office.

The YSRCP organized a protest alleging irregularities in teacher appointments made under the sports quota. The party demanded the resignation of Education Minister Nara Lokesh and called for a CBI investigation into the Mega DSC recruitment process. In response, teachers appointed via the sports quota held a counter-protest, claiming they were victims of false propaganda and seeking to submit a memorandum to SAAP officials.

The confrontation involved shouting and shoving, prompting police to close the main gate of the SAAP premises to separate the groups. YSRCP leaders alleged that Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers disguised themselves as teachers to attack their protesters. Police reportedly used lathi charges and detained several YSRCP leaders and workers to maintain order, including former MLA Bola Brahmanaidu and several former ministers.
