Andhra Pradesh DSC and APPSC recruitment scandal
Overview
In late July 2026, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) intensified its campaign against Education Minister Nara Lokesh over alleged irregularities in the state’s District Selection Committee (DSC) teacher recruitment. The party cited accusations of question-paper leaks, Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) violations, and misuse of sports quotas involving approximately 350,000 aspirants. YSRCP leaders demanded Lokesh’s resignation and a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, comparing the situation to the NEET paper-leak controversy. On July 27, the YSRCP held statewide protests, alleging that the top-ranked candidate had prior access to exam papers. In response, TDP MP Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu and MSME Minister Kondapalli Srinivas defended the recruitment of 16,347 candidates as transparent, noting that results and answer keys were published online. They accused the YSRCP of spreading misinformation. By mid-August 2026, the YSRCP expanded its allegations to include the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) Group-I recruitment processes. On August 17, the dispute escalated in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, where opposition members staged protests to demand a debate. Agriculture Minister K Atchannaidu countered that the YSRCP had failed to conduct recruitment during their previous tenure. By September 4, YSRCP chief Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy renewed demands for a CBI probe, accusing Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of shielding his son. On September 8, state officials, including School Education Commissioner Tamim Ansaria, held a press conference to defend the Mega DSC-2025 process, asserting that eligibility was verified against official records. Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu also criticized the YSRCP for making ‘baseless allegations’ regarding the transparent provision of 16,000 teacher jobs.
