Viking Cruise Line Announces Viking Leda and Viking Vega for 2028‑2029 Service

Viking Cruise Line has revealed the names of its next two ocean‑going vessels, Viking Leda and Viking Vega. Both 998‑passenger ships, weighing about 47,000 tonnes, are under construction at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Italy. Viking Leda is slated to enter service in December 2028, launching a winter programme in the Mediterranean with itineraries of eight to sixteen days departing from ports in Greece, Italy and Spain. Viking Vega is scheduled for delivery in June 2029, initially operating in Southern Europe before repositioning to the British Isles by mid‑July 2029, with embarkation points including Italy, Spain, Norway and the United Kingdom. The two ships will be the 17th and 18th ocean vessels that Viking has built with Fincantieri, continuing the cruise line’s strategy of operating vessels under 1,000 passengers and expanding its premium‑luxury fleet.

The announcements are part of Viking’s broader expansion plan, which also includes upcoming deliveries of hydrogen‑powered ships and new expedition vessels through the early 2030s.
