Viktor Orbán claims Hungarian corruption probe targets Fidesz servers

Former Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán alleges that a July 21 raid on a Budapest data centre, which housed servers linked to his right‑wing Fidesz party, was a pretext for a politically motivated corruption investigation. Prosecutors from Bács‑Kiskun County say the operation was part of a probe into alleged irregularities at the state‑run National Cultural Fund, which is suspected of awarding 1,079 subsidies worth more than 17 billion forints (≈ 47 million euros) in breach of funding rules.

Orbán and his former political director Balázs Orbán describe the probe as a “politically motivated legal process” intended to render Fidesz legally incapable, questioning the legality of seizing the party’s servers. Foreign allies Marine Le Pen of France and Italy’s transport minister Matteo Salvini echoed Orbán’s criticism, accusing Hungarian authorities of violating the rule of law. The prosecutor’s office disputes these claims, maintaining the raid was justified by the suspected grant‑fund violations.
