Viktor Orbán heads to Brussels to meet Patriots for Europe group after Hungarian election defeat

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán made his first official foreign trip since his party's recent electoral loss, traveling to Brussels for a meeting of the Patriots for Europe group. In a press briefing, Orbán said the defeat would not alter the movement's anti‑immigration stance and stressed that far‑right parties across Europe are set to gain strength in the coming years. He called for reforms of the EU, arguing that only a successful Union can stem the rise of nationalist forces.

Orbán highlighted that the Patriotic factions, which together hold 85 seats in the European Parliament and form the third‑largest bloc, remain committed to their sovereign, conservative and radical positions. He warned that a lack of EU achievements could further fuel the “historical process” of nationalist growth, while emphasizing that his supporters continue to back the cause despite the national setback.
