The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued yellow‑code weather alerts for July 27‑28 2026 covering Maramureș, Crișana, Banat, Transylvania, the western part of Oltenia and north‑west Moldavia. The alerts warn of thunderstorms, heavy rain, hail of 1‑3 cm (up to 4 cm in Satu Mare) and strong winds with gusts of 50‑80 km/h, isolated gusts exceeding 80‑100 km/h in mountainous zones. Expected rainfall amounts are 15‑25 l/m², locally over 30‑40 l/m², with a risk of rapid runoff and local flooding.

A parallel hydrological yellow alert from the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management highlighted the danger of rapid runoff and possible local floods in the same counties. In response, the Water Administration completed a 241 000‑lei investment to reinforce a protective wall on the Băița River in Tăuții‑Măgherăuș, Maramureș, protecting schools, a kindergarten and local roads.

The Danube’s flow at the Baziaș entry point is projected to fall to about 1 650 m³/s, roughly one‑third of the long‑term July average, prompting water‑use restrictions for irrigation. A concurrent heatwave forecast predicts temperatures reaching up to 39 °C in Banat and other regions during late July and early August, adding further stress to the population.
