Vila de Paricatuba documentary preserves local history and memory

A new documentary produced by the Viva Paricatuba project captures the history and transformations of Vila de Paricatuba, located in the municipality of Iranduba near Manaus. The film focuses on preserving the community's identity through the personal accounts of its residents, exploring how they have repurposed historical spaces, including the ruins of a former leprosarium.

The narrative centers on three key figures: Dona Josina, a former patient of the leprosarium; her granddaughter Dona Tequinha, a teacher; and Seu Manuel, a local merchant and former community leader. Their stories connect the historical origins of the area to the modern evolution of the village.

Developed by Impact Hub Manaus through the Paricatuba Lab, the initiative aims to strengthen the community across several sectors, including tourism, infrastructure, and communication. Thalia Galdino, the project coordinator, stated that the documentary seeks to show how the territory has been redefined by those who live there.
