Vila Galé launches 14 new hotel projects in Portugal and Brazil as it marks 40 years

The Vila Galé hotel group marked its 40th anniversary on 27 June with a ceremony at Vila Galé Sintra attended by more than 500 guests, including Portugal's Secretary of State for Tourism, Pedro Machado. Founder and president Jorge Rebelo de Almeida highlighted the company's core values and its growth to 52 hotels across Portugal, Brazil, Cuba and Spain.

At the event the group unveiled a new expansion plan comprising 14 hotels under development: six new properties in Portugal (Penacova, Miranda do Douro, Golegã, Lisbon, Caxias and Terceira Island in the Azores) and seven in Brazil (São Luís do Maranhão, Coruripe, Brumadinho, João Pessoa and Florianópolis), with six additional projects still in the pipeline. Administrators stressed a focus on sustainable investment despite challenges such as labour shortages, climate change and geopolitical uncertainty, aiming to continue delivering “human‑centered” hospitality experiences.

The expansion underscores Vila Galé’s strategy of reinvesting in key destinations and reinforces its presence in both the Portuguese and Brazilian tourism markets.
