Vila Galé expands with São Luís and Pernambuco projects

Overview

The Vila Galé Group continues its rapid expansion across Brazil and Portugal. After marking its 40th anniversary on 27 June, the chain unveiled a plan for 14 new hotels – six in Portugal (Penacova, Miranda do Douro, Golegã, Lisbon, Caxias and Terceira Island) and seven in Brazil (São Luís do Maranhão, Coruripe, Brumadinho, João Pessoa, Florianópolis) – with additional projects still in pipeline. Despite lengthy licensing procedures in Portugal, the group says construction will proceed and it is also eyeing a future entry into Cape Verde.

In Brazil, the R$ 100 million heritage‑preservation project in São Luís’ UNESCO‑listed Praia Grande district proceeds on schedule. Governor Carlos Brandão inspected the works on 21 May; the first hotel, Vila Galé Collection Ópera (43 rooms), is set to open on 1 October 2026, followed by Vila Galé Collection Poesia (50 rooms) in December, together with five restaurants. Direct flights to Lisbon are expected from 27 October.

The chain’s first urban resort in Pernambuco, Vila Galé Reserva do Paiva Lifestyle Resort, is slated for 15 October 2026 in the planned community of Paiva, Cabo de Santo Agostinho. The development repurposes the former Sheraton building, adds pools, a water park and a beach club, and will create about 100 direct jobs amid a surge in international visitors to the state.

Earlier, the Yah Acqua Park opened in Luís Correia, Piauí, expanding leisure options for SESC members. Overall, Vila Galé’s strategy combines historic‑site revitalisation with new resort concepts to boost tourism and local economies in Brazil’s northeast while reinforcing its presence in Portugal.
