Vila Galé opens first hotel in São Luís, Brazil
The Portuguese hotel group Vila Galé has opened its first hotel in São Luís, the capital of Maranhão, Brazil. The Vila Galé Collection Ópera São Luís, located in the restored 19th-century Casa Maranhão building, features 43 rooms and themed decor inspired by opera and the performing arts.
The opening coincides with the inaugural TAP Air Portugal flight between Lisbon and São Luís. The project represents a 100 million reais (approximately 17.9 million euros) investment in the historic center of São Luís, which includes the restoration of three historical buildings to house two hotels and five restaurants.
A second property, the Vila Galé Collection Poesia São Luís, will be located in the former headquarters of the Public Defender's Office and is expected to partially open in December. This expansion brings Vila Galé's total number of operational hotels in Brazil to 14. The group plans to develop eight additional properties by 2028 across various Brazilian states, including Alagoas, Pernambuco, Paraíba, Minas Gerais, and Santa Catarina.
