Wildfires in northern Portugal cause injuries and evacuations

Multiple wildfires are affecting northern Portugal, with significant activity in the Bragança, Vila Real, and Viana do Castelo districts. In Vinhais, a fire that began early Saturday in the Moimenta and Montouro area was declared dominated by Sunday morning. However, the incident caused a major accident when a firefighting vehicle was completely destroyed, resulting in five injuries. Two firefighters were seriously injured and transported to Porto, while three others received treatment for minor injuries in Bragança.

In Torre de Moncorvo, a fire that started Saturday afternoon spread into the neighboring municipality of Carrazeda de Ansiães, creating two active fronts near the villages of Pinhal do Douro and Coleja. Authorities have implemented precautionary measures, including the evacuation of the village of Dine.

Other active fires have been reported in Boticas, specifically in the areas of Ardãos and Nogueira, and in Ponte de Lima, which has spread into Viana do Castelo. Emergency services, including the ANEPC and the Air Force, are managing multiple fronts across the region. High temperatures and wind conditions continue to complicate containment efforts.
