Vila Real water supply disrupted by high consumption
Several localities in the Vila Real district, including the parishes of Campeã, Torgueda, and the union of Pena, Quintã, and Vila Cova, have experienced water supply disruptions since Monday. The water utility company, AdIN, attributed the issue to an ‘anomalous and significant increase in consumption,’ which caused reservoir levels to drop and affected higher-altitude areas.
Local authorities noted that the reduction in pressure also caused some pumping systems to temporarily fail. To mitigate the shortage, AdIN is reinforcing reservoir levels by transporting water with assistance from the Vila Real White Cross and Green Cross Firefighters. Local leaders have urged residents to reduce consumption and avoid non-essential uses, such as watering lawns or filling swimming pools, while measures are implemented to restore normal pressure and supply.
