Villa Medici announces 2027-2028 artist residency competition

The French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici has announced its annual competition to select sixteen fellows for the 2027-2028 residency program. The application period runs from September 4, 2026, to October 16, 2026.

The residency is open to established artists, authors, and researchers across various disciplines, including music, literature, architecture, design, visual arts, choreography, theater direction, art history, and art restoration. While there are no nationality restrictions, applicants must possess a good command of the French language.

Selected fellows will spend 12 months at Villa Medici starting in September 2027. The program provides each recipient with a scholarship, accommodation, a workspace, and technical and artistic support from the Academy's team. Fellows are also encouraged to engage with the Academy's collective life and cultural programming.
