Villa Medici cultural programs and residency competition
Overview
The French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici has announced its annual competition to select sixteen fellows for the 2027-2028 residency program. The application period is scheduled to run from September 4, 2026, to October 16, 2026. The residency is open to established artists, authors, and researchers in disciplines such as music, literature, architecture, design, visual arts, choreography, theater, and art history. While there are no nationality restrictions, applicants must have a good command of the French language.
Selected fellows will receive a scholarship, accommodation, a workspace, and technical support for a 12-month period starting in September 2027.
In addition to the residency competition, the Academy announced the sixth edition of the Villa Medici Film Festival, set to occur from September 16 to 20, 2026. The festival will include over 40 screenings, featuring international competitions and programs exploring the relationship between cinema and contemporary art.
