Villaflores and Escobedo plant trees for World Environment Day in Mexico

On 4‑5 June 2026 the Mexican municipalities of Villaflores, Chiapas and Escobedo, Nuevo León, held tree‑planting events to mark World Environment Day. In Villaflores, mayor Valeria Rosales Sarmiento led the planting of native species such as flamboyán, primavera and matilisguate at the Monumento a la Mazorca and a local sports complex, while Governor Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar monitored the state‑wide reforestation effort virtually. In Escobedo, municipal secretary Felipe Canales Rodríguez and local officials oversaw the planting of 50 native trees in the Villas de San Francisco plaza, part of a goal to reach 18 000 trees; the town has already planted 13 800 specimens in public spaces.

Both initiatives aim to expand urban green areas, improve air quality and raise community awareness of environmental stewardship as part of broader Mexican efforts to conserve natural resources and create lasting green infrastructure.
