Villalcampo forest fire stabilized after major emergency response
A forest fire in Villalcampo, Zamora, has been stabilized after six hours of intensive firefighting efforts. The blaze, which reached a level 2 gravity rating due to risks to populations and infrastructure, prompted the temporary confinement of the municipality of Ricobayo and the closure of the N-122 and ZA-324 roads.
At its peak, the operation mobilized 53 resources, including ground crews, machinery, and aerial means such as helitransported brigades and water bombers. High winds, difficult terrain, and proximity to electrical infrastructure complicated the containment efforts. The proximity to the Ricobayo reservoir assisted firefighting teams by facilitating water refills for aircraft.
While the fire is now stabilized, crews remain on-site to secure the perimeter and prevent reignition. The exact surface area burned is currently undetermined as perimeter work continues. The causes of the fire are under investigation.
