Villapiana records higher 2025 speed‑fine revenue than Milan as Florence leads provincial capitals

In 2025 Italian municipalities collected more than €284 million in speed‑excess fines, accounting for over one‑third of all road‑code penalties. Among provincial capitals, Florence topped the list with €19.7 million, followed by Bologna (€9.2 million) and Milan (€6.9 million). Padova, Genoa, Palermo and Ravenna also featured in the top ten.

The non‑capital town of Villapiana in the province of Cosenza generated a record €6.99 million from speed‑related fines, surpassing Milan’s revenue and placing it among the highest‑earning municipalities nationwide. Other non‑capital communes with notable collections included Fiumicino (€6.9 million), Galatina (€5.3 million) and Cittadella (€3.4 million). These figures highlight the growing importance of traffic‑violation fines as a source of local government income across Italy.
