Villarrica and Maipú municipalities respond to storm damage and flood risk in Chile

In Villarrica, the Newen Mapu association of Ñancul met with mayor Pablo Astete to discuss rebuilding the Feria de Ñancul after a wind‑and‑rain storm destroyed its roof and other structures. The mayor pledged municipal support and the association seeks funding to restore the fair for its February event.

In the Santiago suburb of Maipú, mayor Tomás Vodanovic warned that the commune lacks sufficient infrastructure for forecasted rains of up to 130 mm this weekend. The municipality has begun cleaning channels and sumideros, pruning trees, and urges residents to clean gutters and avoid non‑essential travel while a hotline remains open for emergencies.
