Villena Treasure theft prompts calls for parliamentary inquiry
The PSPV-PSOE group in Les Corts Valencianes has formally requested the appearance of the Minister of Culture, Carmen Ortí, and the regional Secretary of Culture, Marta Alonso, to address security failures following the theft of the Tesoro de Villena from the Museo de Villena (MUVI).
José Chulvi, the PSPV-PSOE spokesperson for Culture, emphasized that the stolen treasure is classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC). He argued that current security protocols and technical measures have proven to be “obsolete and not sufficient for new assault techniques.” The goal of the requested hearing is to analyze the incident and implement improvements to the regulatory and technical standards used to protect cultural heritage within the Valencian Museum System.
Additionally, the PP has requested a hearing with the Mayor of Villena, Fulgencio Cerdán, to detail the specific security measures that were in place at the museum during the August 27 robbery.
