Vilnius begins construction of new 480-seat gymnasium

Construction has officially begun on a new municipal gymnasium in the Verkių district of Vilnius, located on Mykolo Marcinkevičiaus Street. The project aims to serve students from the Jeruzalės, Santariškių, and Visorių areas, providing relief to rapidly growing neighborhoods.

The new facility is designed to accommodate 480 upper-grade students across 16 classes. The total cost of the project is 23.5 million EUR, including VAT, with the contractor UAB Naresta expected to complete the work by the end of 2027.

Beyond the main school building, the development includes a stadium, basketball and playground areas, a library terrace, parking, and pedestrian and bicycle paths. The outdoor infrastructure is intended to be accessible to the local community for sports and leisure. Vilnius Mayor Valdas Benkunskas noted that this is part of a broader effort to address increasing student numbers, as the city expects approximately 1,000 more students this year than last.
