Vilnius District Council to reconsider street renaming
The Vilnius District Municipality Council is set to reconsider the renaming of streets currently named after Henrikas Gulbinowicz. The administration proposes renaming the street in the Buivydžiai eldership to Buivydžiai Street and the street in Nemenčinė to Gabrielius Jano Mincevičius Street.
Previous attempts to pass these changes in February and April failed due to a lack of quorum, as the LLRA-KŠS faction did not participate. The administration is resubmitting the proposals to follow good administrative practices and reduce litigation costs, as the Regional Administrative Court is currently reviewing a case where a government representative is seeking to annul previous naming decisions.
Mayor Robertas Duchnevičius stated he feels a moral obligation to revisit the issue. He noted that the debate has been intensified by ongoing court cases involving allegations of sexual misconduct against priests.
