Vilnius district declares emergency after severe storm damages neighborhoods

Vilnius district mayor Robertas Duchnevičius announced an emergency declaration for the hardest‑hit sub‑districts of Avižienių, Riešės and Zujūnai following a weekend storm that produced wind speeds up to 28 m/s. The decision, based on damage reports, meteorological data and resident complaints, enables faster coordination of resources, additional funding and direct assistance to affected households and public infrastructure.

Municipal administration director Vytautas Vansavičius reported that fire‑brigade crews removed 37 fallen trees, cleared roads and began repairs to damaged homes, schools and viaducts. Ongoing work includes water extraction, power restoration and assessment of property damage, with financial aid being considered for residential and essential infrastructure losses.
